Hello everyone, and welcome back to another development update on DarkAge, the 3D survival RPG being developed here at RaioCore! Progress is moving forward steadily, and I’m excited to share some significant strides that have been made with the game’s inventory system.
The inventory is a cornerstone of any survival RPG, and a lot of effort has gone into building a solid foundation for it in DarkAge. I’m pleased to announce that the basic inventory system is now in place and functional! This means players will be able to interact with the world in meaningful ways, gathering resources and managing their loot.
Current Inventory Features:
The current system boasts a range of features that are essential for survival and exploration:
- Pickup Actors: Players can now interact with and collect various items scattered throughout the world. These “pickup actors” can be anything from essential crafting materials to valuable treasures.
- Harvestable Actors: The world of DarkAge is filled with resources that can be harvested. The inventory system now supports interacting with these “harvestable actors,” allowing players to gather resources like wood, stone, and more, which will be crucial for crafting and survival.
- Consumable and Non-Consumable Items: The Item class, which underpins the entire inventory, is designed to handle both consumable and non-consumable items. This means you’ll be able to find and use items that restore health or provide temporary buffs, as well as items that serve other purposes, such as tools or quest items.
Current Challenges
While the core functionality is there, development is an ongoing process, and there are a couple of areas I’m currently working to refine:
- Stacking Optimization: Item stacking is partially implemented but needs further refinement to ensure it works flawlessly and efficiently.
- Icon Clarity: Item icons are currently displayed using textures, but they are appearing a bit too dim. I’m working on improving their visual clarity so they are easily identifiable.
What’s Next?
With the basic inventory in place, the next steps involve polishing the existing features and expanding its capabilities. Here’s a peek at what’s on the horizon:
- Drag and Drop Functionality: For more intuitive inventory management.
- Equipment Slots: Allowing players to equip the gear they find or craft.
- Item Use/Interaction: Fully implementing the ability to use and interact with items, bringing the world of DarkAge to life.
